What is adventure teen travel?

Teen adventure travel is about stepping out of your comfort zone and experiencing different cultures, trying new adventure activities and sports, while interacting with the local natural environment. The Wild Traveler’s teen adventure travel programs include the perfect balance of all three.

Cultural exchange is an important component with our teen adventure travel programs. The cultural exchange on our Hawaii trip is a unique expeirience that includes an in-depth history of the islands, the ever present island music, unique foods (poke, poi, and musubi to name a few), the people, and their way of life. Our teen adventures take us to Hawaii’s most important cultural landmarks such as the Naha Stone, Pu’kohola Heiau (an ancient Hawaiian temple), and Puuhonua O Honaunau – Hawaii’s best preserved City of Refuge. Our Hawaii teen adventure travel program also works closely with the Waipa Foundation, a local non-profit based in Hanalei Bay dedicated to preserving Hawaiian culture, where we learn about the area and volunteer with harvestesting taro (a Hawaiian staple), and reforest the hillsides with native trees.

The Big Island encompasses 11 of the 13 climate zones in the world, each with unique ecosystems. The Wild Traveler’s Hawaii teen adventure program travels to many of these different ecosystems through travel and adventure activities. Hike through tropical rain forest and across the desert in Volcanoes National Park, SCUBA dive and snorkel to explore the coral reef, kayak along the riperian zone of the Hanalei river, surf along the coast, and more!

Learning new adventure activities is the third component to adventure travel and can open your eyes to new worlds. Our SCUBA open water certification course is 5 days with time in the classroom, dive pool, and the ocean. Taking your first few breaths underwater is unforgetable. Above water we explore many parts of the island through activities such as hiking, surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, and camping.

The benefits of teen adventure travel is priceless. Experience the history and work closely with locals while learning about another way of life. Adventure activities will give you a quick burst of adrenaline as well as a new set of skills that you can master throughout your life. See the world and explore the outdoors. Do all of this with a group of peers and you’ll make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.
