The Wild Traveler’s Summer Teen Tours are definitely fun – hiking, SCUBA diving certification, kayaking, snorkeling, surf camp – but they are so much more. Our summer teen tours also give our teenagers a greater sense of responsibility and independence, as well has the problem solving and leadership skills that will help them succeed in college and in their careers.
Our summer teen tours give our teenagers a greater sense of responsibility and independence. After a thorough explanation and demo from our leaders, our teenagers will be responsible for setting up and breaking down our campsites – tents and kitchen area. Teens, under leader supervision, will also be responsible for shopping for food as well as the preparation.
Our summer teen tours also give a greater sense of independence. This comes from stepping out of their comfort zone – flying to a “foreign” place, meeting new people, trying new activities, being away from home. Summer teen tours are a great way for teens to build confidence and step into leadership roles. Each day on our summer teen tours (both in Hawaii and California), the leaders choose a new “leader of the day” each day. The leader of the day is in charge of making sure camp is tidy before we leave for the day, making sure everyone else has everything they need, and keeping the group on schedule.
Not only do our teenagers gain problem solving skills from the general day to day experiences, our leaders also facilitate a variety of group initiatives and challenges where teenagers need to work together in order to find a solution. These are fun activities and bring the teens on our summer teen tours closer together.
